Kamakura is a coastal city in Kanagawa Prefecture that is next to Tokyo. Kamakura was center of government about 800 years ago, so there are many historical monuments like temples or shrine. It is very popular city for tourist🙂 It takes about one hour from Shinjuku station to Kamakura station, so we decided to go Kamakura one day short trip!
That was our Kamakura trip route! It took about 7 hours to go around all the route😉.
Sugimoto temple → Hokokuji temple → Tsuruoka Hachimangu shrine → （lunch time♪） → Great Buddha → Zeniarai Benten Shrine
Sugimoto temple
The temple is famous for mossy stars. We went to the temple to see the beautiful green stairs. The temple is opened 8am. It is very early! So we decided to go there at first 😉(Early time is always good for photography) We had not known that we cannot walk on the mossy stair until go there, but the stairs were still awesome and good to see!
Hokokuji temple
I posted about Hokokuji temple before😉 In this short Kamakura trip, it is the place we wanted to go the most! We walked from Sugimoto temple to Hokokuji temple, and it took less than only 10 minutes. I love the temple!
Tsuruoka Hachimangu shrine
The shrine is very big and most important shrine in Kamakura. You can walk from Kamakura station.( Probably you take Komachi street to Hachimangu where you find lots of shops and restaurants!) To go to main hall of the shrine which stands on a terrace at the top of a wide stairway, we walked long and wide approach from the entrance. On the way of the long approach, there were two big ponds and we saw many white doves near there. I liked white doves and enjoyed feeding for them😉
Lunch
We had lunch at soba noodles restaurant “TsuruHachi” that were in front of Tsuruoka Hachimangu. We ate soba noodle with tempura♡( We love tempura!) It was great!
Great Buddha(Kotoku-in Temple)
We went back from Hachimangu shrine to Kamakura station and got a bus to Kotoku-in Temple. The temple is famous for Great Buddha which is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha. Great Buddha is called “Daibutsu” in Japanease😉 The landscape nicely around here and I think it is definitely a beautiful place to visit!
Zeniarai Benten Shrine
We walked to Zeniarai Benten shine from Great Buddha, and it took over 20 minutes. The shrine is in the middle of a mountain. The entrance to the shrine area is a tunnel. It is unique shrine because people visit the shrine to wash their money! ( Zeniarai means washing money in Japanese) It is said that money will increase by washing money in spring of the shrine. Of course we washed our money😉
We went back to Kamakura station again, and finally we ate Matcha ice cream! We found many shops that sold match ice cream. In Kamakura, there are many other places we should visit. But it is not so far from Tokyo, so we can go there anytime we want to go!

久しぶりに鎌倉へ行きました♪今回の鎌倉観光は、こんなルートで回ってきました！途中でお昼も食べたので、朝8時半くらいに杉本寺に到着し、全部で7時間くらいのルートとなりました。
杉本寺→報国寺→鶴岡八幡宮→（ランチ♪）→鎌倉大仏殿高徳院→銭洗い弁天
杉本寺
ここは、コケの階段が有名なお寺。私たちも例外ではなく、この苔（こけ）の階段が目当てで訪れました♪こちらは朝８時から開門だったので、まず朝一でここに行くことに。（写真撮るには人が少ない朝が本当に良い♡）実際に行くまで、この苔の階段を登ることができないと知りませんでしたが（笑）、見るだけでもきれいですし、行って良かったです。
報国寺
報国寺については、以前の記事でアップしました。今回の鎌倉観光で１番のお目当てのところで、杉本寺から歩いて10分もかからないところにありました^^ このお寺は本当に素敵なところでした。
鶴岡八幡宮
実は当初は今回のルートに入れてなかったのですが、報国寺から鎌倉駅へバスで向かうと、途中で鶴岡八幡宮を通るので行くことに。小町通りを通り鎌倉駅まで歩くこともできて、いい場所にあります^^ 入り口の大きな鳥居から、本宮に行くのに長い広いまっすぐな道を通ります。本宮は少々長い階段の上に建っています。鶴岡八幡宮には、源氏池、平家池という大きな池もあり、そこで白い鳩をたくさん見られました。白い鳩ってきれい！鳩とコイ用のえさが売っていたのでそれを買って鳩のエサやりを楽しみました（笑）子供みたい・・（笑）
ランチ
ここで11時すぎになっていたのでランチを食べることに。鶴岡八幡宮の目の前にある鶴八さんにはいりました。天ぷらそばを注文。私たち天ぷら好きなのでついつい、天ぷらに目が行ってしまう（笑）おいしかったです♡
鎌倉大仏殿高徳院
鎌倉といえば大仏！鎌倉駅からバスに乗り、久しぶりに訪れました。10年ぶりくらいかも・・。やっぱり大仏は圧巻ですね^^ この頃はもうお昼にかかっていたので、人も多かったです。
銭洗い弁天（天宇賀福神社）
大仏から歩いて20分強・・銭洗い弁天も行ってきました。ここに来たのも久しぶりでしたが、銭洗い弁天に行くまでの少々険しい坂はよく覚えていました（笑）入り口からトンネルを通り、境内へ。もちろんここに来たからには、お金を洗って今後の発展を祈願してきました^^笑 ここでお金を洗うと倍になるとか、増えるとか言い伝えられているようですね😉
そして、再度鎌倉駅に戻ってきて、最後の締めに抹茶のアイスクリームを頂きました。小町通など鎌倉で抹茶のアイスクリームを売っているのをたくさん見かけたので、どうも食べたくなってしまった♡鎌倉はまだまだ見るべき場所はあると思うので、新宿から１時間で来られるし、また訪れたいと思います♪
